Access to Justice improves in State as Govt expands Court network

Agartala, Dec 21: In a major push to strengthen access to justice, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday said that courts have now been established up to the sub-divisional level across Tripura.

This has significantly reduced the need for people to travel to district headquarters or the state capital for legal proceedings.

The Chief Minister said the expansion of the judicial network has made justice delivery more accessible to citizens while simultaneously generating employment opportunities within the legal sector.

He noted that the establishment of new courts has increased demand for lawyers, clerks and supporting staff, contributing to local employment.

Dr. Saha was speaking after inaugurating the sixth annual Legal Cell Conclave organised by the BJP Legal Cell at the Muktadhara Auditorium in Agartala.

Legal Profession as a Mission, Not Just a Career

Emphasising the broader role of the legal fraternity, the Chief Minister said the legal profession should be viewed as a mission dedicated to public service rather than merely a source of income.

He urged lawyers to take a leading role in the development of both Tripura and the nation.

He pointed out that lawyers regularly engage with people from all sections of society and deal with a wide range of issues, including family disputes, criminal cases and land-related conflicts.

Stressing the importance of professional preparedness, Dr. Saha said legal practitioners must continuously update themselves, adding that law and politics remain closely interconnected in a democratic system.

Lawyers’ Historical and Contemporary Role in Indian Politics

Reflecting on India’s legal and political legacy, the Chief Minister recalled the contributions of several eminent leaders and jurists who shaped the nation’s public life.

He said that figures such as Lala Lajpat Rai, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Madan Mohan Malviya and Ram Jethmalani demonstrated the enduring influence of lawyers in Indian politics.

Dr. Saha further said that the country is moving forward under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, asserting that the present direction marks a departure from earlier periods characterised by corruption and governance challenges.

The conclave was attended by BJP state vice-president and senior advocate Subal Bhowmik, BJP Legal Cell in-charge Dr. Ashok Sinha, Convener Biswajit Deb, along with other members of the BJP Legal Cell.
