State Witness Sharp Fall in Violent Crimes, Murders Down by Over 18 percent
Agartala, Jan 8: Tripura has witnessed a notable improvement in its overall law-and-order situation, with a significant reduction in crime during the current assessment period.
According to an official press brief released on Wednesday overall crime in the state declined by 8.30 per cent, dropping from 4,033 cases in the previous period to 3,698 cases, reflecting strengthened policing and preventive measures.
The decline was evident across major crime categories. Property-related offences registered a sharp fall of 16 per cent, reducing from 349 to 293 cases.
Crimes against the human body also dropped by 14.55 per cent, with reported cases coming down from 969 to 828. Importantly, incidents of crime against women saw an 8.14 per cent reduction, decreasing from 724 cases to 665 during the same period .
Within crime against women, dowry harassment cases recorded a substantial fall of nearly 20 per cent, while rape cases declined by over 6 per cent.
Serious offences such as murder also showed improvement, with cases decreasing by 18.10 per cent.
Incidents of rioting dropped by more than 26 per cent, and cases of hurt and assault declined by over 14 per cent, indicating better control over violent crime .
Road safety enforcement also yielded positive results. Road traffic accidents (RTAs) decreased by nearly 9 per cent, while fatal accidents fell by 14.55 per cent.
The number of deaths caused by road accidents declined from 226 to 197, highlighting the impact of stricter traffic monitoring and awareness drives across the state .
At the same time, Tripura Police intensified its campaign against the drug menace. Cases registered under the NDPS Act increased by 11.06 per cent, underscoring proactive action against narcotics networks.
Seizure of ganja rose by over 14 per cent, while the recovery of cough syrup bottles surged by nearly 146 per cent. Yaba tablet seizures also increased by more than 26 per cent.
Additionally, police action to destroy ganja seedlings and plants nearly doubled, with a rise of over 94 per cent during the period .
The police also took firm steps against illegal immigration. During 2025, a total of 202 cases were registered against immigrant foreign nationals, leading to the arrest of 578 individuals, including Bangladeshi nationals, Rohingyas and other foreign nationals .
Enforcement activity across various laws saw a sharp rise. Prosecution reports against gamblers under the Tripura Gambling Act increased by 21 per cent.
Prosecutions under the Motor Vehicles Act more than doubled, while fine collections crossed ₹20 crore. Overall prosecution reports against troublemakers surged by 125 per cent, indicating stricter action against unlawful activities.

Community engagement also expanded significantly. The community policing initiative ‘Prayaas’ recorded a 42.35 per cent increase in meetings, strengthening cooperation between police and citizens and contributing to improved public safety across Tripura .
Police officials said the combined impact of preventive policing, targeted enforcement and community participation has played a crucial role in reducing crime and improving public confidence in Tripura.
