Biochemistry Professionals Set New Academic Benchmark with First CME

Agartala, Jan 10: Tripura’s medical academia took a notable step forward today (Jan 10, 2026).

Clinical biochemists from across the state came together to host a dedicated Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme.

This event signals a new phase of professional collaboration in laboratory medicine, participants said.

The day-long academic meet was held at the IMA House in Agartala and marked the first time that biochemists of Tripura independently conceptualised and executed a CME event.

Organised under the banner of the Association of Clinical Chemistry & Laboratory Medicine Practitioners (ACCLMP), the initiative underscored the growing organisational and academic maturity of the state’s biochemistry community.

Unlike conventional multidisciplinary CMEs, the programme was uniquely focused on clinical biochemistry, highlighting its expanding role in modern diagnostics and patient care.

Close to 54 participants, including biochemists and professionals from allied diagnostic fields, attended the programme, reflecting increasing interest in specialised academic forums.

The organisers stated that the CME was designed as an academic convergence point, encouraging cross-disciplinary dialogue, exchange of recent scientific developments, and sustained professional learning.

The inaugural ceremony saw the presence of several senior medical educators and administrators, lending institutional support to the initiative.

Among those present were Dr. Sankar Roy, Professor and Head of Biochemistry at Tripura Medical College, Dr. Bidhan Goswami from GBP Hospital, Dr. Sanjay Nath, Principal of Tripura State Medical College, Dr. Anup Kumar Saha, Principal of AGMC, and Dr. Dilip Kumar Das, president of ACCLMP Tripura State.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Organising Chairperson Dr. Asis Debbarma, with Organising Secretary Dr. Debina Sarkar playing a key role in coordination and execution.

The scientific sessions featured a range of expert speakers from different diagnostic disciplines, including specialists invited from outside Tripura.

Presence of Dr. Barnali Das as an invited speaker from Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Mumbai, added a broader national perspective to the deliberations.

Delegates described the programme as a timely and impactful effort that has opened new avenues for academic networking and future educational initiatives.

Many participants expressed optimism that such focused CMEs would contribute significantly to strengthening diagnostic services and medical education in Tripura in the years ahead.
