AIIMS–Tripura MoU: Action Taken Report reviewed

Agartala, Jan 30: Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Friday reviewed the Action Taken Report (ATR) related to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between AIIMS, New Delhi and the Government of Tripura. The review meeting was held through a video conference from the Chief Minister’s War Room, with AIIMS Director Prof. (Dr.) M. Srinivas and senior officials in attendance.

According to the Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Tripura, the ATR was formally presented on January 28, 2026, in follow-up to the MoU executed on October 17, 2025. The agreement aims to strengthen healthcare delivery and medical education in the state with technical and academic support from AIIMS, New Delhi.

Governance reforms

On leadership and governance reforms, a government press release mentioned that several key initiatives are either underway or partially implemented. These include the establishment of a Health University, formation of a unified healthcare workforce, enhancement of financial powers, and introduction of IT-enabled administrative systems.

Regarding human resources and recruitment, it was stated that appointments are being made in accordance with existing government norms through the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) and the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC). Faculty development and capacity-building programmes, including specialized training at AIIMS, have also been initiated.

In the area of medical education and academic strengthening, steps have been taken to introduce new departments, launch skill-based courses, revise service rules, and provide academic exposure through AIIMS to improve the overall quality of medical education in Tripura.

The review further highlighted progress in hospital services and infrastructure development. Measures are being taken to enhance emergency care, expand intensive care units, operationalise operation theatres, procure advanced medical equipment through the PPP mode, and streamline the medical supply chain.

Patient feedback and digital initiatives

On patient feedback and digital initiatives, officials noted that while the ‘Mera Hospital’ mobile application is already operational, coordination has begun with AIIMS to adopt the ‘Santusht’ application to further strengthen patient feedback mechanisms and service quality.

The meeting was attended by Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, Kiran Gitte, IAS; Mission Director and Additional Secretary Saju Vaheed, IAS; Director of Health Services Dr. Debasri Debbarma; In-Charge Director of Medical Education Prof. (Dr.) H.P. Sharma; Principal of Agartala Government Medical College Prof. (Dr.) Tapan Majumder; Medical Superintendent of AGMC and GBP Hospital Dr. Bidhan Goswami; and Professor (Dr.) Ramesh Agarwal, Head of the Department of Paediatrics, AIIMS, New Delhi.

Reaffirming its commitment, the Health and Family Welfare Department stated that the Tripura government remains focused on continuous improvement of healthcare services and medical education in the state with active collaboration from AIIMS, New Delhi.
