State Congress Warns of Majoritarian Push by RSS-BJP
Agartala, Feb 9: Tripura Pradesh Congress president Ashish Kumar Saha and senior leader Prabir Chakraborty on Monday raised serious concerns over recent political developments in the country. They warned that these developments threaten India’s democratic and constitutional system.
Speaking at a press conference in Agartala, the Congress leaders referred to statements reportedly made by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat in Mumbai. They said describing “infiltration” as the country’s main problem was dangerous. They also objected to the claim that RSS workers should identify and expel alleged infiltrators.
The leaders said the suggestion that language could be used to identify infiltrators was discriminatory and unconstitutional.
They further criticised Bhagwat’s remarks against religious conversion. They also opposed his reported call for increasing the birth rate of the majority community by urging families to have at least three children. According to the Congress leaders, such statements promote aggressive majoritarian ideology.
The leaders also spoke about recent developments in BJP-ruled Assam. They pointed out that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had again claimed that he “stole” five lakh Muslim votes.
They said the controversy grew after the Chief Minister allegedly released an AI-generated video. The video showed two bearded Muslim men, one resembling Assam Pradesh Congress president and MP Gaurav Gogoi. In the video, the Chief Minister is seen pointing a gun at them. Text on the screen warned them to leave for Pakistan or Bangladesh.
Saha described the video as a clear incitement to violence and genocide. He said that despite demands for legal action, the Centre, the Election Commission, and the state government have remained silent.

Saha and Chakraborty said these incidents point to the rise of a fascist system. They accused the Modi–Amit Shah leadership of controlling constitutional institutions. They alleged that laws are being changed for political gain.
They also claimed that the Right to Information Act has been weakened in the name of national security. They said Parliament is being used in an authoritarian manner.
The Congress leaders urged democratic forces across the country to remain alert. They called for united resistance to protect the Constitution and India’s pluralistic values.
