Amit Shah to Visit Tripura on Feb 20

Agartala, Feb 12: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Tripura on February 20. His visit has gained political importance as the state prepares for the crucial elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), likely to be held in March or April.

Shah will attend the Joint Regional Official Language Conference, titled the Akhil Bharatiya Rajbhasha Sammelan. The Department of Official Language under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs is organising the event. The programme will take place at the International Indoor Exhibition Centre in Hapania, on the outskirts of Agartala. Officials from the eastern, northeastern and northern regions will take part in the conference.

Meanwhile, political circles see the visit as significant ahead of the TTAADC polls. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has stepped up its preparations for the ADC polls.

Party sources said Shah is likely to meet Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and senior BJP leaders. They may review the party’s organisational work and discuss election strategy.

The visit also comes amid differences between the BJP and its ally, the Tipra Motha Party (TMP). Sources said Shah may meet TMP leaders, including party chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma. The talks may focus on alliance coordination before the elections.

Political activities have increased across the state ahead of the 30-member ADC polls. Shah’s visit is expected to boost party workers and shape the BJP’s campaign strategy in the tribal areas.

On Akhil Bharatiya Rajbhasha Sammelan, a senior official stated that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be present at the conference along with several prominent dignitaries. The programme will take place at the International Indoor Exhibition Centre in Hapania, located on the outskirts of the state capital.

Delegates from various Central government departments, public sector enterprises, banks, Town Official Language Implementation Committees (TOLICs) and other institutions are expected to attend the gathering.

To enhance the significance of the conference, organisers have planned an exhibition highlighting exemplary initiatives undertaken by different organisations in implementing the Official Language policy. The exhibition aims to showcase notable achievements and best practices in promoting the use of the Official Language.

Participating institutions have been urged to provide details of innovative projects or remarkable efforts carried out in the area of Official Language implementation. These contributions will be displayed at designated stalls during the exhibition.

Dr Manik Saha confirmed that the Union Home Minister will attend the Rajbhasha Sammelan in Agartala. (With IANS inputs)
