October 08, 2017: Ruling Left Front government in Tripura seems to be facing tough time on multiple issues before ensuing to Assembly Polls. While, the State Government is already on a sticky wicket with the teachers’ termination and new recruitment policy related issues, employees of Tripura Jute Mill are all set to add further woes for the ruling Party as the staffs will start ‘cease work’ for indefinite period from October 9. The employees and staffs will organize the indefinite agitation in support of demand for upgrading ROP and accordingly ensure payment of Salaries and pensions to employees as per the other PSU employees.
Leaders of the Joint forum consisting of various unions alleged, “We have been forced to hold Cease Work agitation, as all the pleas fell in deaf ears. We are demanding modification of ROP and providing salaries as well as pension following the same rule applicable for other PSUs”.
State Government published ROP-2017, however the new ROP made the situation complicated. Citing complications, the State Government kept on depriving the Jute Mill employees. Members of Joint Forum met the Chief Secretary of the State and submitted a mass deputation. However, no effective and positive steps had been taken by the State administration so far, alleged leaders of the Forum. “Apathy of the State Government has forced us to stage the cease work agitation for indefinite period”, commented members of the Joint Forum.
