Acid Attack Survivors
The Conqueror in the Mirror -A Salute to Acid Attack Survivors

Preface: From tragedy to triumph: Meet the acid attack survivors redefining beauty and reclaiming their lives at Sheroes Hangout cafe in Lucknow. A story of true resilience.

Lucknow Mar 8: “My scars are not a sign of what I lost, but a map of the battles I won”, said an acid attack survivor in Lucknow today – on the International women’s day.

As the world was observing International Women’s Day, a quiet but profound scent of reclamation of life was brewing over cups of coffee in Lucknow.

Kuldeep Rupali and Shraniyaa are the two of several others who have turned a narrative of victimhood into a manifesto of victory.

They are successfully running a popular hangout namely Sheroes cafe in the heart of Lucknow.

The Map of Battles Won

Kuldeep Rupali, Shraniyaa and others’ story began with a moment of unimaginable cruelty— acid attacks in different time intended to erase their individual identity.

But looking at them today while managing the cafe it is clear that true that acid terribly bruised their skin, but it was powerless against their spirits.

“The mirror shows a survivor, but my heart feels a conqueror,” Kuldeep Rupali said, her voice steady and devoid of the bitterness one might expect.

For her, the reflection in the glass is no longer a source of pain. Instead, she views her journey through a lens of profound resilience.

A Life Rebuilt: Marriage and Motherhood

The transition from surviving to thriving wasn’t instantaneous. It required navigating the grueling terrain of physical surgeries and the even steeper climb of mental healing.

Yet, they defied the societal stigmas that often shadow survivors. She found love, got married, and is now the proud mother of an eight-year-old daughter.

Kuldeep Rupali and Shraniyaa reiterated their family members are their pillars of strength.

This domestic happiness serves as the ultimate rebuttal to those who once tried to diminish their future.

Her life is a living example that a woman’s worth is never skin-deep and that joy is a choice one makes every single day.

Brewing Change at Sheroes

The “Sheroes” don’t hide their faces; they stand tall, serving customers and sharing their stories. The cafe has become more than a business—it is a sanctuary of solidarity and a source of awareness and inspiration.

By stepping out of the shadows and into the public eye, Kuldeep and her colleagues are forcing society to ponder over stopping crimes against women and redefine beauty.
