Agartala Mar 13: Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu on Friday outlined the state government’s development priorities while addressing the opening day of the ninth budget session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly. He presented a broad roadmap for economic growth, infrastructure expansion and social development in the state.

The Governor said Tripura is entering a new phase of progress. He highlighted large investments in infrastructure, tourism and education. According to him, the government is using the state’s cultural heritage and strong literacy rate to drive long-term economic growth.

Boost to Religious and Heritage Tourism

A major focus of the government is religious and heritage tourism. The Governor announced that work has begun on a Rs 97.70 crore project to construct a replica complex of the 51 Shakti Peethas at Banduar Park.

At the same time, authorities are close to completing a Rs 52 crore redevelopment of the Tripura Sundari Temple under the PRASHAD Scheme. In addition, several heritage conservation projects funded by the Asian Development Bank are progressing with a combined value of Rs 179.72 crore.

The Governor said these projects are helping Tripura secure a stronger position on the national tourism map. He also noted that the state has developed 51 log huts under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme to strengthen tourism infrastructure. Meanwhile, Lankamura village has received national recognition as one of the best tourism villages in the country.

Major Push for Higher Education

The Governor also highlighted significant changes in the higher education sector. The government has started the process of upgrading Maharaja Bir Bikram Government College for Women into a Women’s University.

Similarly, the Tripura Institute of Technology will be converted into a State Technical University. These steps aim to equip students with the skills required for a modern and technology-driven economy.

He also recalled a major educational milestone. On June 23, 2025, Tripura was officially declared a fully literate state. The achievement came under the ULLAS Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram, which supports the goals of the National Education Policy 2020. With a literacy rate of 95.6 per cent, Tripura became the third state in India to reach this milestone.

Digital Agriculture and Farmers’ Support

The Governor also spoke about reforms in agriculture. The state government is preparing a farmers’ registry that will cover around 2.71 lakh farmers. At the same time, authorities are carrying out a Digital Crop Survey in one village in each district.

Because of these initiatives, Tripura qualified for Rs 260 crore in special assistance from the central government.

Direct financial support to farmers has also increased. Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, the government has transferred Rs 87.47 crore directly to the bank accounts of 2.17 lakh farmers. In addition, around 96,000 farmers are now covered under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.

Improvement in Law and Order

The Governor said the law and order situation in the state has improved during the past year. Overall crime declined by 8.33 per cent between April and November 2025 compared with the same period in 2024.

Several crime categories also recorded notable reductions. Property-related offences dropped by 18.51 per cent. Crimes against women declined by 11 per cent. Rape cases fell by 33 per cent. Murder cases went down by 26 per cent, while incidents of hurt and assault decreased by 10 per cent.

Intensified Anti-Drug Drive

The Governor said the government has strengthened its anti-drug campaign under the “Nesha Mukt Tripura” initiative.

Between April and November 2025, police registered 350 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985 against 515 accused persons.

During the same period, security forces seized 22,606.50 kilograms of ganja, 2,11,141 bottles of cough syrup, 6,06,379 methamphetamine tablets and 1,937.88 grams of heroin or brown sugar.

Authorities also intensified action against illegal cannabis cultivation. More than 2.10 crore ganja plants or saplings were destroyed. This figure marks a 74.45 per cent increase compared with the previous year.

Conviction Rate Shows Sharp Rise

The Governor said the implementation of new criminal laws has significantly improved the conviction rate in the state.

The rate increased from 29.47 per cent between January and June 2024 to 60.50 per cent during July–December 2024. It further rose to 68.25 per cent between January and November 2025.

Rehabilitation of Bru (Reang) Families

The Governor also highlighted the rehabilitation of displaced tribal communities. The state government has successfully resettled 6,935 families of the Bru (Reang) community, comprising 37,584 people, who had earlier fled Mizoram.

Their settlement followed the quadripartite agreement signed on January 16, 2020 between the central government, the governments of Tripura and Mizoram, and representatives of the refugees.
