Live Analysis: The “Triple University” Vision

Beyond the budget figures, the 2026 budget is expected to highlight three major legislative initiatives.

The government is likely to introduce bills to establish a Health Sciences University, a Technical University, and a Women’s University.

Through these steps, the Dr Manik Saha-led administration aims to shift the state’s focus.

Instead of producing only job seekers, the government now wants to create skilled professionals and innovators.

Moreover, the plan seeks to strengthen higher education in key sectors. Dedicated state-run universities will oversee medical and technical education.

As a result, Tripura hopes to emerge as a regional education hub for the entire Northeast.

The “DA Factor”: Addressing the 30% Gap

Another key checkpoint in today’s budget session is the long-pending demand for Dearness Allowance (DA) parity. State government employees have raised this issue repeatedly.

Recently, experts from Tripura University recommended a 30 percent increase in salaries and wages.

They believe this step would help align state employees with Central government standards.
