Agartala, Mar 16: The Tripura Budget 2026-27 has signalled a historic shift from traditional administration to a “Digital-First” economy. Beyond the fiscal outlay of Rs 34,212 crore, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy today unveiled a specialized roadmap to transform Agartala into a regional hub for Artificial Intelligence, Gaming, and the “Orange Economy.”
The ‘Agartala AI City’ & TIDEZ Vision
In a flagship move, the government announced the development of Agartala AI City. This state-of-the-art IT Park is designed to promote startups and large-scale employment. The initiative aims to accelerate digital expansion and foster innovation.
Agartala will compromise state-of-the-art ‘Information Technology Park’ which will cater to IT/ITeS companies, AI-driven enterprises and Global Capability Centre (GCCs).
Moreover, the Tripura IT & Data Ecosystem Zone (TIDEZ) will be established at Chanmari in Agartala, providing a dedicated environment for data centers and digital infrastructure investment.
‘NAVCHETNA’ and the Drone Revolution
To prepare the next generation, the budget introduces the ‘NAVCHETNA‘ initiative, which will integrate AI, Robotics, IoT, and coding into school laboratories.

Furthermore, Tripura will establish its first Drone School to professionally train operators with DGCA-approved licenses, opening new career paths in logistics and agriculture. For this initiative, Rs 25.00 cr has been earmarked.
The Rise of the Orange Economy
Recognizing the potential of creative media, a new AVGC-XR Policy (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality) was announced for promoting Orange Economy.

This policy seeks to position Tripura as a creative hub, encouraging innovation in digital content and immersive media while encouraging innovation, skilling opportunities and job creation.
Beyond the Screen: Smart Infrastructure
The digital push is matched by specialized physical infrastructure:
Cyber Security: Establishment of a Cyber Security Operation Centre (CSOC) in Agartala to boost State’s digital security ecosystem with an allocation of Rs 60.00 crore.
Skill Export: Launch of the ‘Mukhyamantri Antarjatik Kormosangstan Prakolpa’ to facilitate overseas employment for nursing, ITI, and graduate students.
Heritage & Language: Construction of a Handloom Bhawan and Museum at Indranagar and the promotion of literary magazines in Kok-Borok, Garo, Chakma, and other tribal languages.
