This rescheduling follows a moment of consensus among ruling and opposition parties in the State Assembly, major political parties, and local organizations, ensuring that the electoral process does not clash with the state’s traditional festival calendar.

The State Election Commissioner had initially declared April 13 as the polling date during a press conference on March 17.

However, the date coincides with major tribal festivals, including Garia Puja, Biju, and Buisu, which are widely celebrated across several areas under the TTAADC.

The issue was subsequently raised during the Budget Session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly today.

MLAs wanted to postpone the date of polling. However, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha pin-pointed that the tenure of the existing TTAADC administration would officially end on April 18.

So, if election is not held and results are not announced latest by April 17, an Administrator would have to be appointed.

“I urge all the members of the House to seek rescheduling after a deep thought so that there won’t be any controversy after the appointment of administrator”, Dr Saha said.

Following another round of discussions, a proposal was adopted urging the State Election Commission to preponed the polling date. Both the ruling and opposition party MLAs agreed to conduct polling on April 12.

Earlier Several political parties including BJP and non-governmental organizations also submitted similar requests.

Taking these concerns into account, the Commission decided to reschedule the polling to April 12 to facilitate greater participation from all communities.

According to an official press note, the rest of the election schedule, as announced on March 17, will remain unchanged.
