October 15, 2017: Role of certain section of Police came under scanner as Tripura Rajya Upajati Gana-mukti Parishad (GMP) delegates today met DGP AK Shukla and discussed about violence on September 19 in presence of Police forces. The delegation of GMP led by MP Jitendra Chaudhury today met DGP A.K. Shukla and demanded stern action against the persons involved in attacking GMP supporters on September 19 last. GMP is a strong tribal wing of ruling CPIM in Tripura.
GMP delegates discussed about assaults launched on rally-bound GMP supporters on September 19 in details and raised fingers at role of the Police during violence. The GMP leaders today alleged that a small section of policemen had backed the divisive forces to create unrest at various spots recently.
Delegates alleged, surprisingly, though, such attacks took place at some places in presence of police officers, they played inactive role and ‘undue indulgence’ by a section of policemen led to further occurrences of violence and posed threat to the law and order situation.
Addressing a news conference at Melarmath Bhavan, GMP leader Radhacharan alleged that the attack on rally-bound GMP supporters by IPFT (N.C.group) activists on September 19 last was ‘pre-planned’. However, over 50,000 GMP supporters, fighting against all odds attended the rally held on September 19 last at Agartala, he asserted.
Denouncing the IPFT’s attack incident, Radha said, the Ganamukti Parishad will organize rallies and street cor-ners across state.
