Agartala April 27: The elected MDCs of the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) in the TTAADC took oath at Khumulwng today.

On the same day, a group of unemployed tribal youths held protests in Agartala North Gate.

They were alleging “backdoor” recruitment of 120 individuals without official notification and interviews.

Quick Glance: Key Highlights

  • Swearing-In: 24 TMP members took their oath at Council Bhavan, Khumulwng, following a landslide victory.

  • Systemic Reforms: TMP chief Pradyot Debbarma pledged “drastic reforms” and a collaborative roadmap involving experts.

  • Job Scam Allegations: Protesters claim 120 positions were filled secretly during the election period without public advertisements.

  • Political Boycott: The BJP boycotted the ceremony, moving the Governor to demand a high-level inquiry into recruitment irregularities.

TMP Vision: Beyond ‘Pleasing the System’

Following the ceremony administered by ADC Law Secretary Shankari Das, TMP chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma addressed the media with a stern mandate for change.

Emphasizing that previous tenures were hindered by systemic obstacles, Debbarma signaled a departure from business-as-usual governance.

“I think you will see some drastic reforms change because I’ve realized. that working only to please the system does not help”, he said.

The TMP Chief proposed an inclusive “Vision Plan” that integrates former bureaucrats, students, and legal experts to revamp sectors like healthcare and entrepreneurship.

Drawing inspiration from younger leadership in neighboring nations like Nepal, he called for a “new and young Tripura” led by progressive agendas rather than bureaucratic red tape.

He said, “I think if we want a new Tripura, a young Tripura, then we have to change the system. If in Nepal, Balendra Shah becomes the Prime Minister at 35, then why can’t we have someone young also trying to drive home a new agenda for a better Tripura?”

Talking about funding, Pradyot Kishore said, “We will work it out and but with whatever we have, we cannot ignore that. We will also work with whatever we have and I will appeal to the Government of India that Tripura cannot develop without TTAADC and vice versa.

Concern Over “Backdoor” Appointments

While the leadership highlighted upcoming reforms in Khumulwng, the atmosphere at the North Gate in Agartala remained charged.

Hundreds of tribal youths staged a demonstration, carrying placards demanding a “Proper Inquiry in TTAADC Job Scam.”

The protesters alleged that the council administration bypassed mandatory public notifications to appoint 120 individuals. Besides, there were no  interviews and no exams were held.

These claims were echoed by the BJP, which has formally petitioned the Governor.

The move seen as an early attempt to mitigate the growing unrest.
