Panisagar (Tripura), August 07: Tripura Sports School, Panisagar, clinched the State Under-15 Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament title on Friday and secured qualification for the National Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament.
The hosts defeated Garia Academy Model School of Gomati district 4-2 in an entertaining final at the Physical Education College Ground in Panisagar. The victory capped an impressive campaign in which Tripura Sports School dominated every stage of the competition.
Khomendra Reang shines with hat-trick
Khomendra Reang produced another outstanding performance in the final. He scored a hat-trick to guide Tripura Sports School to the title. His consistent displays throughout the tournament also earned him the Best Footballer of the Tournament award.
Kamitjoy Reang added the fourth goal for the champions.
For Garia Academy Model School, Adar Jamatia fought hard and scored both goals. However, his efforts could not prevent Tripura Sports School from lifting the trophy.
Referee Tapal Debnath officiated the final.
Champions dominate from the opening whistle
Tripura Sports School entered the tournament as one of the favourites. They justified that reputation with attacking football and disciplined defending.
The Panisagar side took control early in the final and maintained pressure throughout the match. Their quick passing and clinical finishing helped them establish a comfortable lead before Garia Academy attempted a late fightback.
The 4-2 scoreline reflected the champions’ attacking strength and consistency.
One-sided semifinal sets the tone
Earlier in the day, Tripura Sports School booked their place in the final with a commanding 7-0 victory over Sainod English Medium School from West district.
Khomendra Reang completed another hat-trick in that match, taking his scoring form into the final.
Maskarian Reang struck twice, while San Debbarma and Dulnangha Reang scored one goal each. Tripura Sports School raced to a 5-0 halftime lead and never allowed their opponents to recover.
Shiv Sadhan Jamatia officiated the semifinal.
The emphatic win highlighted the team’s attacking depth and strong teamwork ahead of the title clash.
Gomati district survives tense shootout
The second semifinal produced a much closer contest.
Gomati district, represented by Garia Academy Model School, faced North district in a tightly contested encounter. Neither side managed to score during regulation time.
The match went to a penalty shootout, where Gomati district edged North district 5-4 to secure a place in the final.
Satyenjyoti Chakma served as the referee.
National challenge awaits
With the state title secured, Tripura Sports School will now represent the state in the prestigious National Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament.
The team’s dominant performances throughout the competition have raised expectations ahead of the national event. The players displayed attacking quality, tactical discipline and composure under pressure.
