Better diagnostic facilities, specialist healthcare and digital services are set to reshape medical care at Amarpur Subdivisional Hospital. Health Secretary Kiran Gitte has directed officials to strengthen the facility and expand services so that residents of remote areas can access quality treatment without travelling to larger hospitals.
Key Takeaways
- Amarpur Subdivisional Hospital is moving towards a digital and paperless healthcare system.
- The Health Department plans to add specialist doctors and strengthen diagnostic facilities.
- The government aims to reduce patient referrals by improving treatment options at Amarpur.
Tripura Health Secretary Kiran Gitte has stressed the need to modernize healthcare delivery at Amarpur Subdivisional Hospital during an inspection of the facility. He reviewed hospital infrastructure, diagnostic services, staffing and emergency care arrangements.
Director of Health Services Dr. Debashree Debbarma, Gomati District Magistrate Rinku Lather, Gomati Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kamal Reang and other senior officials accompanied him during the visit.
Amarpur hospital infrastructure
Gitte said the hospital has made considerable progress in infrastructure and medical services over the past few years.
Patients earlier depended on outside agencies for several diagnostic tests. The hospital now conducts most of the required investigations within its own premises.
The facility currently offers digital X-ray and ultrasonography services. It also has an upgraded operation theatre. Modern treatment facilities for mothers and children are available at the hospital.
Equipment for thyroid testing and CBC investigations is expected to become operational soon. This will further expand the diagnostic services available to local patients.
The Health Secretary said seven doctors are currently working at the hospital. However, the facility needs more specialised manpower.
He said the Health Department will place the requirement before Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha. The proposal will seek the posting of an anaesthesiologist, medicine specialist, orthopaedic specialist and additional junior doctors.
Focus on reducing referrals to larger hospitals
Amarpur Subdivisional Hospital handles around 150 outdoor patients every day. Despite the improvements, the hospital still refers around 30 to 40 patients to Udaipur or the district hospital every month.
The Health Department now wants to reduce these referrals by expanding infrastructure and specialist services.
Gitte said the objective is to provide better treatment closer to the homes of people living in remote areas. Strengthening the Amarpur facility will also reduce the need for patients and their families to travel to larger hospitals.

The move is particularly important for patients who require timely treatment but face difficulties travelling long distances.
Blood supply remains a key requirement
The operation theatre at Amarpur hospital is already functional. However, Gitte underlined the importance of maintaining an adequate blood supply for uninterrupted emergency and surgical services.
He appealed to local clubs, social organisations and residents to organise voluntary blood donation camps.
Regular blood donation drives can help the hospital maintain sufficient stocks. This will support emergency treatment and surgical procedures when patients require blood urgently.
Hospital moves towards paperless healthcare
Digital transformation is another major focus of the Health Department.
Officials are working to introduce digital and paperless services at Amarpur Subdivisional Hospital. The initiative will follow the model being implemented at the Civil Hospital in Agartala.
The Integrated Health Management System and Ayushman Bharat Health Account, or ABHA, have already been introduced.
The digital system aims to make healthcare services faster and more convenient. It will also reduce paperwork for patients and hospital staff.
In the coming days, patients are expected to receive several healthcare documents electronically. These may include doctors prescriptions, X-ray and ultrasonography reports, other diagnostic reports and discharge certificates.
The system will help patients access their medical records without making repeated visits to the hospital. It can also reduce travel costs and waiting time.
Health officials review hospital services
After the inspection, Director of Health Services Dr. Debashree Debbarma held a review meeting at the hospital.
Gomati CMO Dr. Kamal Reang, SDMO Udaipur Dr. Biswajit Debnath, doctors and programme managers attended the meeting.
The Director said the Health Department will take steps to improve services further in line with the directions and suggestions given by the Health Secretary.
She also reviewed the status of the newly constructed staff quarters. The water connection work is expected to be completed soon. The quarters will then be handed over to the concerned staff members.
Dr. Debashree Debbarma also appreciated the doctors and healthcare workers for maintaining uninterrupted services, including during holidays.
The Health Department said the latest measures are aimed at creating a stronger healthcare facility at Amarpur and improving access to medical services for people in remote parts of the region.
