The rain has affected residential areas as well as farmland. Administrative teams have visited several locations to assess the situation and provide assistance.

Families Take Shelter in Mandai

In the Mandai area, heavy rain and flooding forced 26 families to leave their homes during the early hours of Sunday. The affected residents took shelter at a school after Mandai police personnel helped them move to safety.

Reports said the people at the shelter were initially provided puffed rice and bottled water.

Local residents have also raised concerns about the availability of adequate food and other support. They alleged that representatives of MLA Swapna Debbarma and MDC Jagadish Debbarma had not yet visited the affected area to assess the situation.

Waterlogging Sparks Highway Protest in Champaknagar

The Champaknagar area faced severe waterlogging following the rainfall. Rainwater entered houses and submerged ponds and agricultural land.

Residents blamed inadequate drainage for the worsening situation.

They said the Jirania sub-divisional administration had earlier assured them that a roadside drain would be constructed within a week as part of the ongoing National Highway widening work. However, residents claimed that the drainage work has not been completed.

Angered by the situation, residents blocked the National Highway and staged a protest. They demanded immediate steps to drain the accumulated water and prevent further flooding.

The protesters also spoke to the media about their grievances and sought intervention from the administration.

Kalyanpur Reports Damage to Homes and Crops

Kalyanpur block has also witnessed significant disruption after two days of heavy rain.

According to the administration, nine families have been affected across the block. A total of 39 people have faced the impact of the disaster.

Several families in East Kunjaban, West Dwarikapur and Madhya Kalyanpur Gram Panchayat areas have reported problems. In some locations, water entered houses. Trees also fell on residential structures, causing damage.

Kalyanpur block officials visited the affected areas after receiving reports. They inspected the situation and spoke with affected families. The officials assured them of necessary assistance.

The disaster management team of Kalyanpur Scouts and Guides also visited affected locations. The team operates under the Teliamura Sub-Divisional Administration.

Agricultural Fields Under Water

The prolonged rain has caused concern among farmers in Kalyanpur.

Large areas of Aman paddy fields and vegetable plantations under the Bagabazar Agriculture Sector have been submerged. Several Gram Panchayat and Village Committee areas have reported water accumulation in agricultural fields.

Farmers fear crop losses as water has accumulated soon after cultivation.

Crop insurance teams and Agriculture Department officials visited affected fields to assess the damage. They inspected the farmland and collected information from farmers about possible crop losses.

The authorities assured farmers that necessary assistance would be considered based on the extent of damage.

Administration Keeps Watch

The situation remains a concern in low-lying areas as water levels in rivers and streams continue to rise.

Officials are monitoring the affected locations and assessing whether the damage is increasing. Administrative teams are also keeping track of the needs of affected families and farmers.

Further assistance is expected based on the ground situation and the extent of losses reported from the affected areas.
