  2. The airport secured sixth position nationally in the Customer Satisfaction Survey.
  3. New accessibility, safety and passenger-service initiatives are being expanded.

Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in Agartala handled nearly 1.5 million passengers in the 2025-26 financial year, officials said on Wednesday.

The airport has also secured sixth position among airports across India in the Customer Satisfaction Survey (CSS). Airport Director Krishan Mohan Nehra attributed the recognition to the airport’s continued focus on passenger comfort, convenience and service quality.

The developments highlight MBB Airport’s growing role in air connectivity of Tripura with other States. The airport stands second in the Northeast in passenger traffic after Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) in Guwahati, officials said.

Passenger Services at MBB Airport

Nehra said the airport has introduced almost all modern facilities needed to provide passengers with a comfortable and hassle-free journey.

“Almost all modern facilities have been introduced and commissioned at the airport to ensure that every passenger enjoys a safe, comfortable and hassle-free journey,” he told the media.

Passengers can use Digi Yatra at the departure area for faster entry. The terminal also has check-in counters and baggage trolleys to make the departure process easier.

Several other facilities support passengers inside the terminal. These include “May I Help You” assistance, seating arrangements, free Wi-Fi and mobile charging points.

The Flight Information Display System also provides passengers with flight-related information.

MBB Airport has added several other passenger-oriented facilities. These include the Udan Yatri Cafe, AVSAR outlets, Flybrary and a Kidz Zone.

Greater Accessibility for Persons With Disabilities

The airport has also introduced measures to make its facilities more accessible and inclusive.

Wheelchair facilities are available for passengers who require mobility assistance. The airport also has dedicated accessible toilets and tactile flooring.

Staff at the “May I Help You” facility and airline personnel have received training in Indian Sign Language.

The training aims to improve assistance for passengers with hearing and speech disabilities.

A telephone facility in the departure area also allows passengers to request wheelchair assistance.

Systems for Safer Flight Operations

Nehra said MBB Airport has maintained its focus on safe, reliable and punctual flight operations.

The airport has a Category-I Instrument Landing System (ILS). It also uses an Approach Lighting System and Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI).

These systems assist aircraft during approach and landing. They are particularly useful when visibility is reduced.

MBB Airport has also implemented Low Visibility Procedures (LVP). The procedures help maintain safe and coordinated operations when visibility deteriorates.

Aerobridges Help Streamline Boarding

Passengers can use aerobridges at contact bays to move directly between the terminal and aircraft.

The airport also facilitates boarding and deboarding through rear aircraft doors whenever operational conditions permit.

Nehra said the arrangement helps reduce aircraft turnaround time.

MBB Airport also caters to passengers travelling with infants. It has dedicated baby-care rooms and diaper-changing facilities in ladies’ washrooms.

Swachhta Hi Seva From September 17

MBB Airport will observe the Swachhta Hi Seva campaign from September 17 to October 2 in accordance with directions from the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA).

The airport will also conduct the Yatri Sewa Abhiyan-2026 from September 17 to October 10.

Officials said both campaigns will focus on Seva, Swachhata, Sahyog and “Service with Smile”.

Tripura Government Plans Month-Long Campaign

The Swachhta Hi Seva campaign will begin on September 17, which marks Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.

The Tripura government will also launch a month-long campaign from the same date.

The state programme will mark Modi’s birthday and commemorate his 25 years in governance and public life.

The airport’s latest initiatives reflect its focus on passenger services alongside operational safety, accessibility and cleanliness. With nearly 1.5 million passengers handled in 2025-26, MBB Airport continues to serve as an important gateway for air travellers in Tripura and the Northeast.
