Power, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Thursday said the Bharatiya Janata Party’s development approach focuses on human welfare and the progress of people at the last rung of society.
Nath made the statement while attending a reception and felicitation programme for senior citizens organised by the BJP’s Mohanpur Mandal at the Mohanpur Motor Stand area.
The programme was organised as part of the month-long ‘Seva Sankalp’ initiative being held in connection with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.
Senior citizens honoured at Mohanpur
During the programme, Nath interacted with senior citizens and discussed various issues with them. He said the BJP has undertaken a series of activities as part of the month-long initiative.
The Minister said the programme should not be viewed simply as a birthday celebration. He described it as a service-oriented initiative.
Nath said Modi’s 25 years of public service reflected a focus on the people and on the development of those at the last level of society.
He also paid tribute to former Prime Ministers while highlighting what he described as the scale of Modi’s development initiatives.
“The people remain at the centre of every initiative,” Nath said, stressing the importance of public welfare in political and development activities.
Nath explains BJP’s development approach
Nath said different political parties follow different ideological approaches. He referred to capitalism, socialism and communism while explaining the BJP’s stated approach.
According to the Minister, the BJP’s focus is on the welfare of human beings and the development of the last person.
He said development should not be measured only through infrastructure or economic growth.
Nath said the construction of roads and buildings, establishment of health centres, setting up of industries and growth in GDP should not alone define development.
He argued that development must address the overall well-being of individuals.
“The collective development of a person’s physical, mental, intellectual and spiritual dimensions” should form part of the development process, Nath said.
Focus on people lacking basic necessities
The Minister also highlighted the need to address the concerns of economically disadvantaged people.
He referred to people from tribal communities, Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes and the general category who may face difficulties in meeting basic needs.
Nath specifically referred to people who do not have drinking water at home, lack housing or struggle to secure adequate food.
He said social service should continue until such people achieve better living conditions and development.
The Minister linked this approach with the philosophy of ‘Ekatma Manav Darshan’.
He said the idea also finds expression in the teachings of Swami Vivekananda and Deendayal Upadhyay.
Gita and shawls presented to senior citizens
Nath said the occasion was also significant because of its connection with Deendayal Upadhyay.
He said senior citizens were invited to the Mohanpur programme to honour them, interact with them and seek their suggestions on development.
The event therefore combined felicitation with direct interaction with elderly residents.
The organisers arranged tiffins for the participating senior citizens. They also presented them with copies of the Bhagavad Gita and shawls.
Nath said such activities reflected the service-oriented approach behind the month-long ‘Seva Sankalp’ programme.
