Agartala West Police has stepped up preparations for the upcoming festive season with a coordination meeting involving local Durga Puja and Kali Puja organisers. The meeting focused on public safety, traffic management, administrative permissions and maintaining peace during the celebrations.
Police meet puja organisers
Agartala West Police organised the meeting at Muktadhara Hall on Tuesday. Office-bearers of various puja committees under the West police station attended the session along with representatives of concerned organisations.
The meeting addressed several key issues linked to the festive season. These included law and order, visitor safety, traffic control and prevention of untoward incidents.
Police officials also briefed organisers about the administrative restrictions that apply to puja celebrations. They explained the required dos and don’ts and urged the organisers to follow the guidelines during the festivities.
Safety and public cooperation stressed
Durga Puja draws thousands of people to different puja pandals across Agartala. The large gatherings require coordination among police, the administration, puja committees and local residents.
SDPO Pannalal Sen said the festival brings together people from different communities and sections of society. He stressed that maintaining peace cannot remain the responsibility of the administration alone.
According to Sen, citizens and social organisations also have a responsibility to maintain peace and order in their respective areas.
He said the meeting aimed to discuss the overall arrangements and ensure that organisers understand their responsibilities before the celebrations begin.
108 pujas held last year
Police records show that 108 pujas took place under the jurisdiction of Agartala West Police Station last year.
This year, the police have so far received applications seeking permission for 33 pujas organised by residential groups and social organisations.
The remaining applications are moving through the single-window system. Organisers must obtain no-objection certificates from different departments before the administration finalises the permissions.
Police officials expect more applications to receive clearance within the next couple of days.
Organisers urged to secure permission
The police have advised all organising clubs to complete the administrative process at the earliest. They have also urged organisers to obtain the required permission before starting puja-related work.

The administration’s preparations cover the period from Durga Puja through Kali Puja. Police will focus on maintaining public order, ensuring visitor safety and managing traffic during the celebrations.
The meeting also underlined the need for cooperation from puja committees and ordinary citizens. Such coordination will help people visit pandals safely and enjoy the festive season without unnecessary disruption.
With the festival approaching, Agartala West Police has made it clear that timely compliance with administrative requirements and cooperation from organisers will remain central to smooth and peaceful celebrations across the city.
