Together, the substations will benefit 37,548 electricity consumers in South Tripura. The projects aim to improve transmission connectivity and strengthen the power supply network in Sabroom, Satchand and adjoining areas.
Sabroom Substation Built at Rs 66.19 Crore
The 132 kV Sabroom substation cost approximately Rs 66.19 crore. Construction began in March 2021.
The project includes a 132 kV substation and a two-storey control room building. It also involved the construction of a 132 kV double-circuit transmission line between Belonia and Sabroom, linking the new facility to the existing power network.
The substation has two 132/33 kV transformers, each with a capacity of 31.5 MVA. It also has two 33/11 kV transformers, each rated at 10 MVA.
The newly constructed 132 kV double-circuit transmission line connects Sabroom with the Bilonia and Satchand substations. This connectivity will strengthen the electricity transmission network serving the area.
Ratan Lal Nath said the new facility would reinforce power supply infrastructure in Sabroom and neighbouring localities. He highlighted the importance of improving electricity supply quality and reliability to provide better services to consumers.
The project will benefit 21,398 electricity consumers. The beneficiary areas include Sabroom, Baishnabpur, Manu Ghat, Harina, Bankul, the Integrated Check Post, Luthua, Rupaichhari and adjoining localities.
Satchand Substation Receives Rs 47.83 Crore Investment
The 132 kV Satchand substation was constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 47.83 crore. Work began in January 2021, with the Government of India and the World Bank providing financial assistance. The Power Grid Corporation of India Limited implemented the project.

The facility includes a 132 kV substation and a two-storey control room building. The project also involved the construction of a 132 kV transmission line from Satchand to Bagafa to strengthen connectivity within the power network.
The substation has two 132/33 kV transformers with a capacity of 31.5 MVA each. It also houses two 33/11 kV transformers, each with a capacity of 10 MVA.
A newly constructed 132 kV double-circuit transmission line connects the Satchand substation with the Bagafa and Sabroom substations. The additional connectivity is expected to strengthen the electricity supply network across the region.
The Power Minister said the commissioning of the Satchand facility would improve power supply quality and reliability in Satchand and surrounding areas. Better electricity services would also support the broader development of the region.
The project will benefit 16,150 electricity consumers. The beneficiary areas include Satchand, Manubazar, Shakbari, Magurchhara, Kalachhara, Bhurakhali, Sindukpathar, Rajivnagar, Srinagar and adjoining localities.
Two Projects to Benefit 37,548 Consumers
The inauguration of the Sabroom and Satchand substations marks an important addition to South Tripura’s electricity infrastructure. The two facilities will serve a combined 37,548 consumers across the designated beneficiary areas.
The projects combine new substations, control room buildings, transformers and transmission links to strengthen the existing power network. Their connections with Bilonia, Bagafa and Sabroom will also improve links between key substations.
With an investment of approximately Rs 113.92 crore, the projects aim to provide more reliable electricity services to households and other consumers in South Tripura. The upgraded infrastructure is expected to improve the quality of power supply and support development across the region.
