One of the alleged attackers sustained injuries during the confrontation. Although senior BSF and police officials brought the situation under control, tension continued in the border area.

BSF Personnel Spot Cross-Border Smuggling Activity

According to a senior police official, the incident began when BSF personnel noticed some Indian and Bangladeshi smugglers allegedly engaged in illegal trade near the international border.

The jawans immediately moved towards the location and managed to apprehend an Indian smuggler. However, the Bangladeshi smugglers, who were on the other side of the border fence, fled as the BSF personnel approached.

The apprehended Indian smuggler also managed to escape from the spot. He allegedly returned to the village and told residents that BSF personnel had assaulted him, the police official said.

His allegations reportedly triggered the subsequent confrontation.

The situation escalated further when some members of the mob allegedly attempted to snatch a BSF jawan’s rifle. The attackers also damaged the force’s vehicle during the confrontation.

One person from the attacking group also sustained injuries, according to the police official.

However, the confrontation left the locality tense, prompting security and law enforcement authorities to intensify their efforts.
