Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath has predicted a sweeping victory for the BJP in the upcoming urban local body elections, claiming that the party enjoys overwhelming public support in Mohanpur and across all 21 urban local bodies (ULBs).
Leading a massive rally in Mohanpur in support of BJP candidates filing their nomination papers for the Mohanpur Municipal Council elections, Nath described the public response as a strong indication of the party’s growing popularity.
He said the enthusiasm displayed by the people had exceeded his expectations. The Minister also challenged Congress and CPIM leaders to visit Mohanpur and witness the public mobilisation surrounding the BJP’s election campaign.
Nath asserted that the party was confident of winning the people’s mandate through its development agenda and continued engagement with the public.
Nath Claims Growing Public Support for BJP
Addressing the gathering, the Power Minister said the turnout at the nomination rally reflected the trust people had developed in the BJP’s leadership.
He invited opposition leaders to assess the political atmosphere in Mohanpur rather than question the BJP’s electoral prospects.
“The response we are receiving from the people is far beyond my expectations. I invite Congress and CPIM leaders to visit Mohanpur and see the enormous crowd and enthusiasm for themselves,” Nath said.
He maintained that every political party had the democratic right to field candidates in the elections. However, he said opposition parties should also be prepared to face the people’s verdict.
According to Nath, the massive gathering demonstrated the BJP’s growing appeal and the confidence voters had placed in its leadership.
The Minister expressed similar confidence about the party’s prospects in all 21 urban local bodies. He predicted that the BJP would secure a decisive victory across the state.
Development Agenda at Centre of BJP Campaign
Explaining the basis of the party’s electoral appeal, Nath said the BJP was approaching voters with its development-oriented agenda.
He stressed that the party remained committed to standing beside people during both happy occasions and difficult periods.
The Minister argued that the BJP’s connection with the public extended beyond election campaigns. He claimed that party leaders and workers had maintained regular contact with people and provided assistance whenever they needed support.
Nath contrasted this approach with the functioning of the previous CPIM-led government. He alleged that the former government had failed to stand beside people when they faced difficult circumstances.
In contrast, he said BJP leaders and workers had remained connected with the public and responded to their concerns.
Nath Highlights Social Commitment of BJP Candidates
The Power Minister also highlighted the qualities he expected from candidates contesting the urban local body elections.
He said academic qualifications and knowledge were important but insufficient to make someone an effective public representative.
According to Nath, candidates must maintain close relationships with society, understand people’s everyday problems and demonstrate a genuine commitment to public service.
He said the BJP had carefully selected candidates with strong electoral prospects and an established record of social involvement.
“The candidates we have chosen have strong prospects of winning and have been actively engaged in serving society. They understand the difficulties faced by ordinary people and remain available to support them whenever the need arises,” he said.
Nath maintained that candidates who remained accessible to the public and understood grassroots concerns were better positioned to represent people’s interests.
His remarks placed social engagement and public service among the key qualities the BJP expected from its nominees.
Predicts Further Electoral Decline of CPIM
Nath also launched a political attack on the CPIM, claiming that the Left party had lost considerable public support.
He predicted that the party would face further electoral setbacks in the coming years as its political influence continued to decline.
Making a specific prediction about the 2028 Tripura Assembly elections, the Minister suggested that the CPIM could be reduced to just one seat.
His remarks indicated that the BJP leadership remained confident about its long-term electoral prospects while seeking to consolidate its position in the state’s urban political landscape.
However, Nath also called upon the CPIM and Congress to participate actively in the urban local body elections.
He said both opposition parties should field candidates and take part in the electoral contest, emphasising that a democratic election should provide an opportunity for all political parties to compete.
BJP Confident of Victory Across 21 Urban Local Bodies
Reiterating his confidence in the party’s electoral prospects, Nath said the massive participation at the Mohanpur rally reflected growing public acceptance of the BJP.
He projected the gathering as an indication of the political momentum behind the party ahead of the urban local body elections.

The Minister expressed confidence that the enthusiasm witnessed in Mohanpur would translate into electoral gains across the state.
He maintained that the BJP’s development agenda, grassroots engagement and commitment to public service would help it secure a decisive mandate in all 21 urban local bodies.
The nomination rally in Mohanpur thus became an occasion for the Minister to project the BJP’s electoral confidence while targeting the Congress and CPIM over their political standing in Tripura.
