December 15, 2017: The Chairman Airport Authority of India Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra today met Chief Secretary Sanjeev Ranjan at Civil Secretariat in Agartala. Informed sources said, Dr. Mohaparta, accompanied by other AAI officials during the meeting, held discussions on several pending projects with the Chief Secretary. It is learnt the AAI Chief expressed his willingness to renovate Kailasahar airport under Unakoti district in Tripura.
Focusing on modernization of Agartala airport, he told the media, “Agartala Airport has huge potentiality. A Rs. 500 crore project for the new terminal building is underway. There will be a lot of developments in the aviation sector soon”.
Meanwhile, expressing satisfaction over AAI chief’s State visit, a BJP press communiqué stated, “After formation of Modi-led NDA government in Centre, UDAN-RCS — a regional airport development and Regional Connectivity Scheme was introduced”.
On August 30, 2016, BJP state president Biplab Kumar Deb wrote a letter to the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation to restart flight services from Kailashahar airport.
According to the press statement, the Airport Authority of India in accordance with state BJP’s demand, finally, initiated a process to restart the Kailashahar airport. The Kailashahar airport is expected to restart functioning from the next year, Pradesh BJP said.
