December 22, 2017: Tripura Chief Minister today flayed ‘Gujarat Model’ and said, futility of much hyped Gujarat Model has been exposed. Referring BJP’s ‘less than’ expectation performance in Gujarat Polls, he said, BJP All India secretary set a target to win in 150 seats, however people had rejected BJP and its Gujarat Model; that was why BJP could not even cross 100-seat mark. “BJP is looking for a change of Guard in Tripura but Gujarat people almost threw out BJP – because of its anti-people policies”, he said.
Referring to reports of survey of different organizations, Sarkar claimed, “Gujarat Model in a farce. In reality, there is unemployment and people are bereft of basic amenities. There are agricultural lands – but irrigation facility is scarce. In terms of progress, there is glaring gap between urban and rural areas in Gujarat. In contrast Left Front Government, despite its limited resources, is working to expand facilities – education, supply of potable water, irrigation for agriculture and basic amenities”. In his hour-long speech, Sarkar claimed, LF Govt in Tripura has set an example of alternative pro-people governance.
The Chief Minister was firing verbal salvo at BJP-led Government while addressing a mammoth gathering at Nalua under Belonia in South District. The programme was organized to pay tributes to four ‘martyrs’ who were killed by miscreants on December 22, 1989. Large number of people dressed in red attire blitz past hamlets and assembled at meeting ground to pay tribute to four martyrs. Rekindling memories of violence-prone era of alliance regime, Manik Sarkar said, “Erstwhile Cong-TUJS government in Tripura tried to finish off CPM and carried out planned murders.”
Supporters of Red Party in Tripura had to face brutality of opposition Party as LF Government always attempted to maintain principles of secularism, democracy, peace and harmony. “The situation is turning volatile and it is right time to take an oath to ensure maintaining communal harmony, peace and growth – which only LF Government can provide”.
