December 30, 2017: Desperate to regain lost ground, Tripura Pradesh Congress is pinning its hope on Party’s newly elected president Rahul Gandhi. “All India Congress president Rahul Gandhi is likely to visit State on mid-January”, said Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) vice president Gopal Roy today in Agartala. He also said, there is no possibility of forging alliance with any parties as no party has expressed interests so far.

In last Assembly Polls, Congress won in 10 seats, however over the years, series of political setbacks hit the party and left in moribund state. Six of its MLAs, first defected to Trinamool Congress, only to jump into BJP camp. Finally after Ratan Lal Nath quit Congress formally recently, number of Congress MLAs reduced to mere two.
Almost gone into oblivion, Congress Party leaders are desperately trying to regain as much as grounds possible. In its today’s meeting Congress leaders discussed about Poll strategies in the wake of present realities. The Party also held primary talks about selecting Congress candidates for ensuing elections. Speaking to media, Gopal Roy said this today in Agartala. He also said, loyalty to Party will be one of the prime criteria for candidate selection.
.Gopal Roy also said, AICC general secretary CP Joshi is likely to arrive in Tripura on January 10-11, 2018. During the State tour of CP Joshi, candidate list is expected to be finalized. Referring to habitual delay in declaring candidate lists and filing nomination papers, Gopal Roy said, Party leaders are putting emphasis on timely announcement and filing nominations in well planned dates.
