April 10, 2018: The first meeting of the ‘Niti Forum for North-East’ (NFNE) held in State Guest House today resolved to focus on five sectors – tourism, food processing, bamboo, horticulture and ‘Made in Northeast’- on mission mode for pacing up the growth process for the region, said Niti Aayog vice chairman Rajiv Kumar while briefing the media.
Rajiv Kumar said the focus of development projects in the NER will be based on the concept of “HIRA” – Highways, Inland Waterways, Railways and Airways – as spelled out by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Also emphasis will be made on Education, Health and Skill Development in the region.
Popularizing products of the North Eastern States was another important issue discussed in the meeting. Showrooms and emporiums with products of all of the eight NE States may be set up in every district of the country. The meeting also focused on 14 ‘Aspirational’ Districts of the North East region and Dhalai District of the State was identified as one of such district. Special emphasis will be made to ensure all-round development of these districts, he said and added, total 115 districts in country were identified as ‘Aspirational’ district.
