May 11, 2018: After the BJP-led Government decided to demolish Party Offices set up in Government lands – it drew large scale appreciation and common expressed happiness as the demolition drive launched in Agartala and other parts of the State. However, the appreciation was short lived as the administration served notices to several families living along the banks of Haora River in Agartala. The eviction notice immediately drew flak and common people including Opposition Parties started slamming the Government.
People – after receiving the notice recently – met the local BJP MLA Ashish Saha to put pressure demanding immediate cancellation of eviction notice. Sensing the growing discontent among the common people, Saha today said, the Government is working on rehabilitation of evicted people and the Chief Minister Biplab Deb is personally serious about the issues and plights of evicted people.
Saha today visited the area where eviction notices were served. He said, the administration will soon start embankment works along the Haora River bank to prevent flooding during rainy season. For greater interests of public, administration served notices to illegal occupants residing in the area. He said, around 38 families received eviction notice and another 200 families will soon receive such notice.
Mostly poor families are residing there and they have to alternative place to stay and the Government has not made alternative arrangements for us, said one of the families who received eviction notice. In reply Ashish Saha assured, “BJP government will try to provide them an alternative residing option”.
Meanwhile, BJP State general secretary Pratima Bhowmik said, BJP will also press the Government to arrange alternative arrangements for evicted persons. The Party will also demand to allot houses under Housing scheme of the Central government to genuine beneficiaries.
