June 06, 2018: After a brief lull, BJP and IPFT activists are once again at loggerheads. Tension is running high in Lefunga in West Tripura and couple of villages in Khowai district. Police is keeping tight vigil.
A violent clash broke out on Tuesday between BJP and IPFT at Birchandra Manu under Santirbazar in South Tripura District. It is learnt around seven persons were injured and two of them are critically wounded. Two seriously injured persons were referred to Agartala GB Hospital and IPFT supremo cum Revenue Minister NC Debbarma and other IPFT leaders visited the Hospital and talked to injured persons.
Almost immediately after forming BJP-IPFT government, activists of both the Parties got involved in bitter clashes over gaining control in Village Committees in Tribal Autonomous Area District Council (TTAADC). The Opposition CPIM leaders alleged, sporadic clashes at several places across the State rendered development activities in tribal areas stalled affecting poor tribal people. However, the tension between BJP and IPFT was cooled down after leaders of both the Parties intervened and held discussion to settle down disputes.
IPFT demanded that Block Advisory Chairman (BAC) posts in TTAADC areas must be alloted to IPFT candidate – in reality, BJP nominated most of its candidates for BAC in TTAADC. “The BAC issue and demand for a seat out of total two seats in Lok Sabha are mani reasons behind the bloody clashes”, sources said.
In the wake of recent violence, IPFT leaders blamed the new entrants into BJP from CPIM and Party sources said, “The attack was launched by new BJP activists to tarnish image of the Party and most of these new entrants have joined BJP quitting CPIM recently”.
