June 07, 2018: President Ram Nath Kovind announced that the “queen” variety of pineapple would be Tripura’s state fruit. He made the announcement at a civic reception programme organized by the Tripura Government in Agartala today. He also expressed hope that bamboo and rubber of the State – apart from Pineapple – would get due importance in other countries.
Meanwhile, the queen pineapple of Tripura has already been exported to Dubai recently and few more countries are likely to place import order.
Speaking on the occasion, Ram Nath Kovind made reference to 1971 war hero Lance Naik Albert Ekka, who along with his comrades saved Agartala from Pakistani aggression. Ekka’s exemplary courage -at the cost of his life – broke the Pakistani resistance at Gangasagar in erstwhile East Pakistan.
The President also praised the roles of erstwhile Kings of Tripura and said, Maharajas played crucial role in nurturing diverse and rich cultural heritage of the State.
