November 01, 2018: In significant verdict, the Apex Court extended tenure of services of terminated 10,323 teachers by two years. The decision has brought relief to all sections of the society including the10,323 teachers.
The three-member bench of the supreme court headed by chief justice Ranjan Gogoi and comprising justices Kurien Joseph and Udai Umesh Lalit today extended the service of 10,323 ad hoc teachers by two more years, as prayed for by the state government , and directed the Centre to consider giving relaxation in the matter of training and qualification within four months.
Apart from this, the apex court bench directed the state government to the stick to the TET method of recruitment as well as to encourage students and guardians to complete B-ed and D. ELED well in time for enabling them to apply for teachers jobs. Law Secretary Data Mohan Jamatia said this today.
The Education Minister of Tripura Ratan Lal Nath immediately reacted and hailed the decision. He said, the verdict will have long term positive impact – now it remains to be seen, how those 10,323 teachers utilize the golden opportunity and complete their B.Ed courses and clear TET for permanent recruitment.
Roles of the Union and State Government are also important.
Reacting to the verdict CPIM leader and former Deputy Speaker Pabitra Kar urged the State Government to work for preventing occurrence of similar uncertain situation after two years.
