December 20, 2018: There is no need to panic, however, it is important the city dwellers drink boiled water only for next few days – Health and DWS Minister Sudip Roy Barman said this as water sample test established presence of E-coli bacteria in piped water today.
“The DWS personnel are working to identify the leakage through which E-coli bacteria might have mixed with piped water. The need of the hour is to drink boiled water”, Roy Barman said.
The E-coli bacteria from polluted water might have entered the water supply pipeline linked with College Tilla water treatment plant due to leakage.
The engineers from the department concerned have been engaged to identify the leakage and take necessary steps.”
“The presence of the bacteria was found relatively more in the water samples collected from Udichi Club, Math Chowmuhani, Shibnagar and Santipara areas in Agartala”, he added.

He also confirmed that most of the persons, who were admitted in the hospital with diarrhea following the E-coli issue, were already released from the hospital.
Meanwhile, worried by the diarrhoea outbreak reported in some localities of the city, the authority of Agratala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has exhorted the city dwellers to drink boiled water.
In course of the study conducted by Microbiologists of Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC), E-Coil (bacteria) was found in the water supplying from the College Tilla water treatment plant.
Based on the report, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Sailesh Kumar Yadav issued a notification with the same appeal.
