Agartala, Jan 03, 2019: Political uproar between ruling BJP and opposition Parties pushed up political mercury in the State following BJP-IPFT Government’s decision to allow Vedanta Ltd to explore gas and oil in Tripura. The Opposition CPI-M and Congress fired salvo at State government for introducing a competitor to PSU ONGC and weakening it for allowing private companies to make profit. CPI-M did not found any viable reason to put a private company against State owned ONGC into exploration.
Congress leader Tapas Dey accused the state government of going the centre’s way by promoting private companies and helping their business interest at the cost of national interest.
Countering the Opposition’s allegation, BJP retorted fast with a strong response to opposition allegations, particularly of the CPI-M. A statement issued by BJP and signed by its spokesman Nabendu Bhattacharjee said, private companies are showing interests to invest in the State after BJP-led Government assumed power – allowing Vedanta Ltd will usher job opportunities as well as pace up exploration in the State and engage ONGC in a healthy competition.
Taking a pot shot at CPI-M, it said, ONGC became a hub of left backed unscrupulous elements which affected the functioning of ONGC. Left supporters control different activities in ONGC which was a major stumbling block. After BJP came into power, ONGC became free from such elements over time.
The press statement said, Centre’s decision allowing Vedanta Limited to explore gas in Tripura would help it to develop itself as a model state within the next few years. Besides, the BJP government was not against private sectors entering in the state for development activities.
