Agartala, January 08, 2019: Update: All the six injured persons were shifted to GB Hospital Trauma Care in Agartala. As per information available injured persons were Samen Debbarma, Pohor Debbarma, Sankar Debbarma, Ravi Kumar Debbarma, Sumit Debbarma, Lalit Mohan Debbarma and Dinesh Kumar. Leaders of all the Political parties including CPI-M urged people to maintain peace and restore normalcy.
Update: According to available information situation turned worse and Police resorted to using water canon and fired tear gas. As the situation remained beyond control, Police resorted to firing.
Pb24 news reported, six people were injured in Police firing at Madhav Bari area. Two were sent to GB Hospital. Situation is still stated to be tensed. Several pro-bandh supporters were arrested.
However, official confirmation is awaited.
Tension prevailed at Madhav bari area under Ranirbazar PS today as pro-bandh activists – INPT supporters – staged road blockade. Notably, INPT called a 11-hour strike today in ADC area protesting against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. Tension escalated as BJP activists –opposing the bandh – started assembling in the area. Section 144 has been imposed.
In a separate incident, miscreants reportedly pelted stones targeting a bus at Srinagar in Sabroom under South Tripura.
Police sources said, a group of INPT supporters blocked the Assam-Agartala Road at Madhav Bar area. Unconfirmed sources suspect tactic support of ruling ally IPFT in the INPT sponsored blockade programme. Police force reinforced after saffron party supporters were spotted gathering. Meanwhile, officials of civil and police administration are rushing to the spot to quell the tension and restore normalcy, Ranirbazar Police sources said.
