Agartala, February 11, 2019: CPI-M MP, MLAs and several senior leaders of the Party came under attack and were assaulted by miscreants at two different places in Tripura within a span of around 24 hours.

First assault took place near Chottakhola under South Tripura district yesterday and the second incident occurred at Bagma under Gomati district today morning. In both the situation security personnel had a harrowing time in rescuing the CPI-M leaders from the clutches of miscreants. Cars in which leaders were travelling were vandalized – however, leaders escaped with ‘minor injuries’, sources said.

Speaking to media, deputy leader of the Opposition and former MLA Badal Choudhury alleged, BJP supporters were carrying out attacks on CPI-M activists in areas under Rajnagar Assembly constituency during last few months. CPI-M delegates – MP Sankar Prasad Datta, MLAs Badal Choudhury and Sudhan Das, EM of ADC Parikshit Mura Sing, former MLA Basudeb Majumder and other leaders – went to meet the victims on Sunday. Some bike-borne miscreants followed the delegates and later stopped them near Chottakhola. “Miscreants assaulted and tried to dragged us out the vehicle. But as the area was near Indo-Bangla border, patrolling BSF along with the security personnel managed to take us to safe place. We later informed the Police Super of South district and urged him to take actions against miscreants”.

In another – almost similar incidence, MLA Ratan Bhowmik and party leaders Dilip Datta and Ratan Pal went to visit house of a CPI-M activist Gouranga Majumder’s residence at Bagma rea under Gomati district today. Miscreants allegedly backed by BJP vandalized Majumder’s house and his elderly parents were injured. As the CPI-M leaders today went to the house of Gouranga Majumder, miscreants unleashed violence and smashed the vehicle in which leaders were travelling. With prompt reaction of security personnel, leaders were rescued.

“We strongly condemn relentless attacks on Opposition – mainly CPI-M leaders and activists in the State and demanding stern actions against the miscreants involved in such attacks. This is nothing but attack on democracy – and rule of law must prevail to stop such incidents”, Badal Choudhury said in a hard hitting statement before media today.
