Agartala, February 25, 2019 : The AICC has appointed the Royal scion and working president of Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Pradyut Kishire Deb Barma as the TPCC president. He will replace incumbent Birajit Sinha. A communiqué in this regard signed by KC Venugopal, general secretary AICC was sent to the PCC.
The appointment of Pradyot Kishore did not come as a surprise as the AICC was mulling over the idea for quite some time. Party sources said, it was the party president Rahul Gandhi who had taken personal interest in Tripura affairs and took the decision.
When Lok Sabha polls are ensuing, change of guard would definitely be significant. Pradyut Kishore stole the limelight during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) recently. Under his leadership, several regional parties of Indigenous people held agitations and rallies against CAB. With Pradyut Kishore at the helm of State affairs, it is clear that Congress Party is eyeing to consolidate its position in tribal areas and it is expected that some of the regional parties may throw their weights behind him benefitting the Congress.
However, as Congress Party in the State is riddled with traditional intra-party squabbles and bickering among different faction, it remains to be seen how Pradyut Kishore keeps the Party united and regain lost grounds for the Party.
