Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs has been merged with the Ministry of External Affairs. This was announced by External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup in a press conference. The External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had made a proposal to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard. Since the substantial work of Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs is done through Indian missions abroad, Sushma Swaraj had proposed to the Prime Minister that Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs should be merged with Ministry of External Affairs.
