Agartala, April 10, 2019: After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s April 6 Tripura visit, All India BJP president Amit Shah is scheduled to hit campaign trails at Dharmanagar in North Tripura district on Thursday (April 11), local sources said. The meeting will be held in support of BJP’s nominee from East LS seat Rebati Mohan Tripura and election will held be held in East Parliamentary constituency on April 18 – in the second phase while first phase polling for West seat will be held on tomorrow (April 11).
The East Parliamentary seat (reserved for ST) is set to witness fierce multi-corner battle. While CPI-M has fielded its sitting MP Jitendra Choudhury, Congress put up Pragya Deb Burma – a member of Tripura Royal Family. The Royal family has considerable influence on people, especially ST communities. However, the contest turned into stiff challenge for BJP candidate as IPFT – a tribal centric regional party and BJP’s coalition Partner – has thrown its supremo into fray. Political canvas of the East LS seat became further colourful as several top notch IPFT leaders have either defected or lent support to Congress candidate.
AICC chief Rahul Gandhi has already campaign for Congress candidate and Tripura Congress chief is also campaigning hard for the candidate. In a desperate effort, Opposition leader and CPI-M Politburo member Manik Sarkar is also holding meetings at several places in support of CPI-M candidate. On the other side, Chief Minister cum BJP State president Biplab Kumar Deb unleashed campaign blitz for the party candidate. Amit Shah’s visit – one week prior to voting – is expected to further boost saffron campaign in areas under East LS seat.
