Agartala, April 18, 2019: As the video footage of Tripura Congress Chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma slapping an accused in custody became viral in social media, both the ruling BJP and Congress conducted press meet to air their views and opinions on the issue. While BJP strongly condemned the act, Congress seemed to be in challenging mood.
Pradyot Kishore, while talking about stone pelting on his sister who is also Congress nominee from the East LS seat accused that stone pelting conspiracy was hatched by an IPFT Minister. However, BJP’s ally, IPFT remained silent so far even though the person – Pintu Debbarma is purportedly an IPFT worker.
It may be noted here that, ECI deferred polling for East LS seat – was scheduled to be held today (April 18) – to April 23 citing ‘not conducive law and order’ condition. Several
Terming Pradyot Kishore as an ‘anti-tribal’, Law minister Ratan Lal Nath said, today’s incident conveyed aptly Congress leader’s conspiracy. “It is just unbelievable for us that a state president of any political party can commit such a violent act. We strongly condemn the incident,” Nath added.
Meanwhile, Congress seems to be in combative mood and the Party challenged the State Government to arrest Pradyot Kishore. Speaking to media in Agartala today, Party’s state vice president Pijush Biswas said, it’s unfair from the part of police to take suo motto case against PCC president as the man who was slapped did not registrar any complain. He alleged, police acted as directed by BJP party leaders.
Raising a finger at Police, Biswas said, Congress candidates were attacked several times, but police did not arrest anyone. Taking a dig at BJP nominee Pratima Bhowmik, Pijush Biswas said, BJP West Tripura candidate openly said that she will shot the IPS officer and made racist comment against a SDPO, in that case police did not take any case in spite of complaint.
