Agartala, May 08, 2019: Shortly after the declaration of re-polls in 168 polling stations out of total 1679 polling stations under the West Tripura constituency, both the CPIM and and expressed dissatisfaction. While CPIM has already lodged a writ petition in the Apex Court, State unit of Congress will move Supreme Court tomorrow. Ruling BJP claimed repolling will put pressure on people, but there is no doubt of victory of BJP candidate with a comfortable margin.
Highlighting demands of the Party, Left Front Convener Bijan Dhar spoke to media today in Agartala and said, we repeatedly asked the election commission to countermand the whole elections and order fresh polls. However, the Election Commission of India has on today ordered re-polls only in 168 polling stations which nearly missed the 10 per cent count.
Under present circumstances, Left Front candidate Sankar Prasad Datta today moved the Supreme Court and filed a writ petition seeking its intervention in countermanding the polls of West Tripura parliamentary constituency held on April 11 last. The petition was registered and as per latest inputs we have gathered from Delhi it will be mentioned in the Chief Justice’s bench tomorrow, Bijan Dhar added.
Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Pradyot Kishore Debbarman said, the lawyers of Congress party will file a writ petition in the Supreme Court citing specific complaints.
In the RO’s report, he said, it was clearly stated that the process of elections was “vitiated” in 433 booths of the West Tripura constituency. And, to our utter surprise suddenly the number descended to 168.
How can the election commission of India figure out an unjustifiable number?, he asked.
Specifically the word “vitiated” has been underscored in our petition which will be filed tomorrow and we are sure that the SC will do justice, he hoped.
He also said, the party will ask the Chief Electoral Officer of Tripura to hand over the footages of web-camera installed in every polling station, so that the party could present those footages as evidences in the Supreme Court and also could present it in the public domain.
Demanding a probe into the election process in the Tripura West Lok Sabha seat, state BJP spokesman Nabendu Bhattacharjee said that his party would win the seat in a record margin of votes. He also accused that CEO was working at the behest of CPIM.
