Agartala, Jun 15, 2019: A group miscreants attacked and ransacked house of Tripura MP Rebati Tripura at Gandachhera under Dhalai district late Friday night. As Rebati Tripura was not present at the house, he escaped unhurt, but two persons were injured in the attack. Miscreants also burnt a car belonging to a relative of Rebati Tripura. Role of local Police has sparked resentment among the people and even though situation was stated to be under control, panic and tension are palpable in the area.
“The MP was supposed to spend night at his Gandachhera home on Friday – however, due to some urgencies, he had left for Agartala. Believing that, Rebati Tripura is present in the house, goons scooped into the house at night and were searching for the MP”, local sources said.
Even though Police were tight lipped, the needle of suspicion points at IPFT – BJP’s junior partner in the alliance. It may be noted, since formation of BJP-IPFT Government in Tripura, both the parties were involved in several violent confrontation. Earlier, in one such violence, BJP MLA of Karbook came under attack of goons allegedly backed by IPFT. In last Lok Sabha Polls, IPFT contested election and put candidates against BJP in both the LS seats in Tripura.
With Panchayat Polls and elections in Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) are upcoming, tension between BJP and IPFT seems to be surfacing once again. However, last night incidence, in which miscreants burnt car, ransacked and vandalized house of the MP, role of Police force came under scanner. Frantic calls, even by the MP himself, to Police reportedly went unanswered.
Presently, adequate Police force were deployed, but tension and resentment among the people are palpable, local sources said.
