Agartala, July 02, 2019: Raising concern about involvement of women in crime, Police arrested one woman with contraband – brown sugar of worth Rs 5 lakh today at Teliamura in Tripura. On earlier occasions also women with ganja and even with weapons were arrested giving rise suspicion that unscrupulous people are using women in carrying out criminal activities.
Sources said, the woman, Lipika Das (31) – a widow and resident of Chakma Ghat was travelling in a Agartala bound Silchar-Agartala train. Acting on tip-off, sleuths zeroed on Lipika Das and handed her over to Rail police at Teliamura Rail station today.
Later, women police of Teliamura searched the belongings of Lipika and found 6 boxes containing brown sugar. Police sources said, worth of seized contraband items stands at Rs 5 lakh.
Led by SDPO Tapas Kanti Pal, Police are interrogating Lipika. However, Lipika claimed that she was not knowingly carrying brown sugar boxes in her bags. She also said, she went to Silchar with four youths yesterday – all the four youths are in Police list for drug smuggling. Police are interrogating Lipika and yet to file any case till the report was filed.
