Agartala, July 09, 2019: Ruling BJP, expectedly, is way ahead at Kadamtala in campaigning for upcoming three-tier Panchayat polls. However, the opposition – interestingly, it is neither Congress nor CPIM or IPFT, but little known – People’s India which is toiling hard and putting up a brave face against BJP, at least, as far as campaigning is concerned. Campaigning style of People’s India is also quite interesting – high pitched criticism against CPM and Congress pitted against soft verbal attack against BJP. “Both the CPIM and Congress are in slumber, it is greenhorn People’s India which has dared to lock horns with saffron party”, an elder said.

BJP has fielded fresh and new to politics – Mamani Roy for 3 no Zilla Parishad. Immediately after announcement of her candidature, Mamani Roy started visiting and meeting voters, regularly conducting door-to-door campaigns. Local people are also encouraging her. For 9 Kadamtala Panchayat Samiti, BJP picked up Raja Dhar. He is also tirelessly conducting campaigns. Both the candidates are confident of winning the poll.

Leaders of People’s India are holding mass meetings in which participation of common people was noticeable. “Braving incessant rains, on a Haat Baar today, People’s India held a mass meeting in which gathering was quite impressive”, local sources claimed. Despite its limited resources, People’s India is conducting rallies and door-to-door campaigns allowing no easy space to BJP.

Campaigning style of People’s Party is also interesting in the sense that leaders of the Party are firing salvos at Congress and CPIM while they appeared to be softer in criticizing BJP.

Speaking at rally, president of the Party Rahatmat Ali, in a strongly worded speech, termed CPIM as ‘Agent of China’. He said, “CPIM has been washed away from the State while Congress is sitting idle. In such a situation, People’s India has the courage to take on the saffron party – join us, support us and vote for us”.

People’s India leaders played soft tune against BJP, even appreciated BJP’s anti-addiction drive. However, Rahatmat Ali and other leaders slammed BJP for ‘increasing’ atrocities on women.

“Whatever be the outcome of polls, People’s India has added colour to otherwise pale poll battle in Kadamtala”, opined a veteran.
