Agartala, July 15, 2019: Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Devbarma inspected relief camps at Radhanagar and Ashram Chowmuhani in Agartala today. State administration has mobilized boats and other necessary equipments from its own sources, NDRF, TSR, Assam Rifles for effective rescue operations. Adequate relief materials – food, drinking water, medicines, sanitation etc – have been arranged and there is reports of any discontent among the camp inmates, Devbarman said.
Met Office predicted rain/thundershower to occur in next 24 hrs at most places in the State. Heavy to very heavy Rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over all districts in the State. According to reports from the State Disaster Management authority, total 61 relief camps were set up across the State and total 17952 displaced persons took shelter in the camps.
Flood situation affected total five districts of the State and West District was the worst affected. Out of 61 relief camps, 46 were set up in the West District in which 12,837 flood affected people are camping. In Khowai, 11 camps were opened and 1508 persons took shelter in the camps. Two camps each were set up in Gomati and Unakoti districts in which 62 and 106 marooned persons took shelter respectively. Major rivers including Howrah river – though swollen – are flowing below the danger levels.
Crops in Agricultural lands under Durga Chowmuhani Agri-sub division in Kamalpur were destroyed in rains that lashed out in sub-division for last two days. Around 631 farming families were affected in Durga Chowmuhani area, total 89.50 hector farm lands were affected. Agriculture Office sources said, affected farmers will get assistance under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Bima Yojana.
