Agartala, September 26, 2019: At least five persons were killed and 10 persons were critically injured in a road accident at Chechrimai area under Sepahijala district in Tripura today evening. While four persons died on spot, one passenger collapsed on the way to Hospital.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb expressed condolence and said,
“The loss of lives due to road accident in Bishramganj, #Tripura is very unfortunate. I am deeply pained.
My thoughts are with families of those who have lost their loved ones. May god give the bereaved families strength to withstand this tragic loss.”
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma met the injured persons at GB Hospital in Agartala and inquired about treatment and conditions of the wounded persons.
Local sources said, the fatal accident occurred as an Agartala bound Max vehicle had a head-on collision with a Bus coming from the opposite side – Agartala. In the impact, the Max vehicle was badly damaged and most of the passengers were teachers of Sonamura South Rangamati School. Among the deceased, three were teachers while two others were women.
The deceased, Assit HM was identified as Swapan Bandopadhayay and another teacher was Alok Chakraborty, but the name of the third deceased teachers could not be ascertained till filing report. All these teachers along with other teachers were returning from the School. Two deceased women were Laxmi Rani Pal (57) of Roy colony under Amtali and Kanika Debnath (62) of Bairagi bazar area.
Vehicle movement remained standstill for almost half an hour after the fatal accident. Police and Fire Service personnel reached the spot.
All the injured persons were shifted to GB Hospital in Agartala.
