Agartala, September 27, 2019: The Union Government has agreed to clear pending MNREGA wages of workers of Tripura. The move, on the eve of Durga Puja, is expected to increase flow of money in rural areas.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb today held meeting with secretary of Ministry of Rural Development Amarjeet Sinha and discussed pending issues of RD Ministry. A Government press release said, “Secretary of RD has agreed to release the pending wages of Rs 70 crores so that MGNREGA workers get their wages before Durga Puja and also agreed to consider 18,338 new beneficiaries under PMAYG scheme for construction of new houses”. The Chief Minister also requested to include houses with GCI sheet roof and mud walls in the definition of Kutcha houses under PMAYG. The secretary agreed to consider the request positively.
Besides, the Chief Minister also held series of meetings with Union HRD Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and MoS of Power Ministry (I/C) Raj Kumar Singh. Deb discussed about a host of projects and made proposals.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb requested Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank to increase approved amount of Rs 87 crores to 123 crores under SSA. Deb also urged the Minister to establish two new Kendriya Vidyalayas at Dharmanagar and Udaipur to provide quality education to the children of the State and to approve Navodaya Vidyalaya at Pecharthal only. The Chief Minister also requested Dr Nishank to set up one Regional Institute of Education at Agartala.
In a separate meeting with the MoS (I/C) of Power Ministry, Deb urged Raj Kumar Singh to consider deployment of at least two TSR Battalions for providing security to the power PSUs with a view to recruit new Battalions from the unemployed youth in the State. Raj Kumar Singh also agreed to consider supplying surplus 70MW power during off peak hours to Bangladesh in addition to the existing supply of power. The Minister also agreed to connect TSECL sub-station at PK bari and Surjamani Nagar with sub-station of ISTS for reliable transmission of power to Intra State Grid. During the meeting, Biplab Kumar Deb also requested for sanction of additional one lakh smart meters in Agartala.
