Agartala, Sep 28: Dispelling all doubts, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Barman, who also holds the power portfolio, has assured the city dwellers today of uninterrupted electricity services in the city during Puja days.
“The department is all set to offer power supply in the city, without any interruption, at the time of Puja. More than 40 mega watt of electricity will be kept in stand by mode for any sorts of crisis management,” the Power Minister said.
Speaking to the media persons today in the sidelines of an inaugural ceremony of 33 KV sub-station at the NSRCC complex, he said, the state government has undertaken all steps to overhaul the electricity lines of the state. Initiatives have been taken to set up transformer testing lab within the state so that the department cannot get manipulated by the suppliers.
Earlier, he said, random testing is done in the time of purchase which is not enough, by any means. “We have also taken initiatives to train our linemen. A training institute has been opened for capacity building of the workers, especially linemen,” he added.
Rubbishing the widespread rumor that the recent electrical glitches despite being a power surplus state, were due to power exports to Nepal and Bangladesh, he clarified that the root cause of the electrical snags was not that.
“We are a power surplus state. And, export of power is related to the excess power we generate. The reason behind the problem of electrical snags appeared since last few month lies on the outdated technology. With time, modernization should take place. The state electricity department has started the process. A loan has been sanctioned from the Asian Development Bank for the modernization, he told media.
