Police personnel with help from TSR jawans detained one suspected corroborator of extremists from Atharomura area under Khowai district in Tripura on Saturday last. After a prolonged interrogation the suspected person was produced before the Court. Notably, some people suspected to be NLFT cadres had been detained recently in Champahaur Police Station in the same district.
“It is believed that during interrogation of suspected NLFT cadres picked up from Champahaur PS, Police got information about some of the corroborators who hail from Mungiyakami and Teliamura under Khowai”, sources said.
Sources also said, suspected NLFT men can shed light behind the ongoing activities, if any, of the banned group as well as information about other members.
Referring to interrogation of these suspected extremists, sources said, “Police managed to extract several vital clues from the suspected NLFT men and based on the clue, Police along with TSR personnel detained one person from Chanpara area under Mungiyakami PS at wee hours of Saturday”.
The detained person is identified as Kushray Debbarma(26), son of a surrendered extremist Bipin Debbarma.
After picking up Kushray, Police started questioning him and during interrogation Kushray Debbarma revealed that he was not alone during the Police search. In fact there were three others including one surrendered ATTF extremist, namely Dilip Debbarma. However, all the three managed to flee before caught Kushray.
Sources also said, Police recovered some money receipts purportedly used for collecting donations for NLFT from Kushray. However, Police did not find any arms and ammunitions. The detained corroborator, Kushray was produced before the Court today after a detailed interrogation.
Even as hill areas remained free from extremists for last several years, of late, reports of extremist activities in some pockets are pouring in. With ADC elections are ensuing, administration is taking no chance and Intelligence personnel are keeping an eye to trace any movement or activity of extremists in the hill areas.
