With a unique philanthropic initiative, Purvaudaya – an NGO of Tripura – is set to create a laudable instance in the country. The NGO will launch a noble project – titled ‘Heart of Humanity’ – connecting the well-off section of the society with under privileged people. Secretary of Purvaudaya, Niti Deb said this today in Agartala.
She said, “Purvaudaya, a not-for-profit NGO of Tripura which is dedicated to social activities and livelihood generation of the economically dependent people especially for the sustainable income generation for the women in the state. We are also involved in helping the needy directly and with the help of the citizens of the state at various levels and using different methods and ways”.
“And ‘Heart of Humanity’ is the latest charity project undertaken by Purvaudaya in continuation of its social services. Under this initiative, we will set up three outlets – at Shankar Choumuhani, Radhanagar Bus Stand and GB Bazar”. Niti Deb said.
She further said, “The capital city of the state Agartala is emerging fast as an ambitious ‘Smart City’ under the aegis of the Agartala Smart City Ltd. While there are specific parameters and fixed features for a Smart City as envisaged by the experts and specialists on the subject, we feel that no city can be considered fully ‘Smart’ until and unless it caters to the huge needy population that remains faceless, and often unaccounted for, in the dark underbelly of the bubbling and glitzy city life. Here, we feel it becomes imperative for us as an NGO committed to service to the mankind, to do something in a meaningful and befitting manner”.
The ‘Heart of Humanity’ outlet at Shankar Choumuhani will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on July 23 in presence of Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath and Mayor Prafullajit Sinha. Notably, opening of the outlets coincides with the first anniversary of forming Purvaudaya.
Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma will open the second outlet at Radhanagar Bus Stand on the same day in presence of Transport and Tourism etc Minister Shri Pranajit Singh Roy. Later, in the evening State Revenue Minister NC Debbarma along with Social Welfare Minister Santana Chakma will open the GB Bazar outlet.
Detailing on the ‘Hearth of Humanity’ project, Niti Deb said, in the three outlets, well-off families can voluntarily donate their usable cloths, study materials, blankets, mattresses, quilt, footwear, toys etc – things which they no longer use but can be used by under privileged people.
She further said, the outlets will have refrigerators to store food items. “We have excess food or unused food in our homes, restaurants and in social programmes. Instead of throwing those out, people can donate the eatable items in these outlets. The food items which would have otherwise gone wasted would fill a hungry stomach.”, Niti Deb said.
“In an attempt to expand the ambit of learning, these outlets will have books, pen-pencils and other study materials. This facility will be especially useful for children to empower themselves ”, she said.
Heart of Humanity stores will remain open – and anyone who needs may come in and take away whatever he or she required—no question being asked, no bar being imposed. It is wholly ree –both for the ‘giver’ and for the ‘taker’ as well.
“On top of that, identity of both the donors and beneficiaries would be kept secret. Purvauadaya will shoulder all the expenses to run the three outlets – There is no financial involvement on the part of the state government, AMC or ASL”, Niti Deb added.
