In an unexpected incident and heinous crime, a young female artist was molested by a group of unruly youths last night at Amtali area in Agartala. The incident raised serious concern all across the society and netizens are condemning the act vehemently in social media platforms. Administration swung into action immediately.
Amtali Police took prompt action and nabbed two youths including the prime accused of the incident within 24 hours.
The unruly youths not only molested the singer, they also made a video and circulated in the social media. The artist in the viral video was seen being molested by the group of youths. The video stormed the social media and invited wide condemnation since last night.
Amtali police netted the prime accused- 25 years old Sanjit Barman (Kanu), the prime accused, and Asim Majumder (26) from Ashwini Market area soon after an FIR was filed by the victim on Wednesday. According to police, the other culprits who were involved in the act would also be nabbed soon.
Siddhartha Sankar Kar, Officer-in-Charge of Amtali police station, confirmed the two arrests and said two more arrests are on the cards. The police officer also said that the arrestees would be produced before the court on Thursday.
While demanding stern action against the culprits, the people in social media platform also raised a common voice that if the artist was found involved in any illegal activities, she could have been handed over to police. Most surprisingly, in the video, the youths while harassing the artist mentally and physically were seen demanding beer from the artist.
In the meantime, delegations from various political wings and cultural organizations met in deputation with SP West and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits as well as fair investigation into the incident. The incident has sparked anger and condemnation – several common people as well as noted persons vented anger and posted seeking stern action.
